The EU International Trade in Goods Surplus €15.7 Bn

The first estimate for extra-EU exports of goods in July 2021 was €186.1 billion, up by 10.3% compared with July 2020 (€168.7 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €170.4 bn, up by 18.7% compared with July 2020 (€143.6 bn). As a result, the EU recorded a €15.7 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in July 2021, compared with +€25.1 bn in July 2020. Intra-EU trade rose to €277.7 bn in July 2021, +15.8% compared with July 2020.

In January to July 2021, extra-EU exports of goods rose to €1 235.1 bn (an increase of 13.2% compared with January-July 2020), and imports rose to €1 135.9 bn (an increase of 14.7% compared with January-July 2020). As a result, the EU recorded a surplus of €99.2 bn, compared with +€100.3 bn in January-July 2020. Intra-EU trade rose to €1 936.0 bn in January-July 2021, +20.7% compared with January-July 2020, reads the recent data of EuroStat. 

The first estimate for euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world in July 2021 was €206.0 billion, an increase of 11.4% compared with July 2020 (€184.9 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €185.3 bn, a rise of 17.1% compared with July 2020 (€158.2 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a €20.7 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in July 2021, compared with +€26.8 bn in July 2020. Intra-euro area trade rose to €179.7 bn in July 2021, up by 16.8% compared with July 2020.
In January to July 2021, euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world rose to €1 378.3 bn (an increase of 14.8% compared with January-July 2020), and imports rose to €1 255.9 bn (an increase of 15.5% compared with January-July 2020). As a result the euro area recorded a surplus of €122.4 bn, compared with +€112.8 bn in January-July 2020. Intra-euro area trade rose to €1 230.5 bn in January-July 2021, up by 20.1% compared with January-July 2020.
