Azerbaijan’s Electricity Exports Up by 28%, Georgia – Main Importer

Electricity production in Azerbaijan in January-October 2021 amounted to 22 855 800 000 kWh, which is 7.3% higher than the same period last year. Electricity exports from Azerbaijan amounted to 1 156 000 000 kWh, or 28.2% more. With 505.5 million kWh Georgia was the main export destination for Azerbaijan’s electricity. 

In the reporting period, TPPs in Azerbaijan produced 21 458 600 000 kWh (an increase of 7%), at hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) - 1 108 900 000 kWh (an increase of 17.2%), Interfax-Azerbaijan reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
 
Electricity production from alternative sources amounted to 288.3 million kWh (decrease by 0.1%). In particular, wind power plants generated 77 million kWh, solar stations - 48.5 million kWh, and a solid waste incineration plant - 162.8 million kWh. 
 
Of the total electricity production, the main share or 89.7% (20 504 300 000 kWh) has been accounted by Azerenerji JSC. 
 
In January-October 2021, electricity exports from Azerbaijan amounted to 1 156 000 000 kWh (an increase of 28.2%). At the same time, electricity supplies to Iran amounted to 252.8 million kWh, Turkey - 318.6 million kWh, Russia - 79.1 million kW / h, Georgia - 505.5 million kWh.
 
Imports of electricity to Azerbaijan in the reporting period amounted to 130.8 million kWh (an increase of 13.7%). In the structure of imports, Iran accounted for 27.3 million kWh, Russia - 78.9 million kWh, Georgia - 24.6 million kWh.
 
Electricity production in Azerbaijan by the end of 2020 compared to 2019 decreased by 1.1% - to 25 811 200 000 kWh.
