Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili is paying a working visit to the U.S. The Minister will hold high-level meetings for intensification of Georgia-US economic cooperation.
According to the Georgian Ambassador to the U.S. David Zalkaliani, Levan Davitashvili met U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Scott Nathan, Vice-President of EXIM Bank Judith DelZoppo Pryor.
The development of a wide range of branches that will contribute to deepening bilateral business and economic ties was discussed during the meetings.
Georgian side stressed that US-Georgia free trade agreement would benefit both political and economic interests as well as Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspiration and trade diversification needs.
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has already invested more than USD 750 in different sectors of the Georgian economy. It is currently implementing 12 projects in the country with a total investment volume of USD188 million.
The opening of a regional office of the DFC in Tbilisi was also noted at the meeting, while the parties also agreed to continue cooperation in the field of tourism, infrastructure and energy security.
The US is one of the largest investor countries of Georgia. As of March 1, 2022, there are 351 US-owned companies operating in the country, covering sectors such as transportation, communications, finance, manufacturing, infrastructure, and real estate.
The US investments in Georgia have exceeded over USD 1.8 billion so far.
