Hosting any legal international tournament can boost hotel occupancy and revenue, particularly during the off-season, says Shalva Alaverdashvili, founder of the Hotels Federation, commenting on Parliament’s approval of tax incentives for casinos organizing international tournaments.
The legislative changes are intended to attract foreign visitors and stimulate tourism, especially during periods of lower demand.
Alaverdashvili estimates that if each tournament brings around 200 high-spending visitors who stay in individual hotel rooms for seven days, it would generate approximately 1,400 overnight stays per event. Assuming a minimum room rate of $200 per night, this could bring hotels around $280,000 in revenue from accommodation alone.
He added that attracting approximately 10,000 overnight stays could generate up to $2 million in direct revenue for hotels and restaurants, excluding money spent on gambling. Such events could also increase average daily room rates, as participants are generally higher-spending tourists who do not typically choose budget accommodation.
