In June 2025, 123 cases of illegal forest use were identified by the Environmental Supervision Department, according to information released by the agency.
Of the total violations:
- 74 cases involved illegal logging and timber transportation
- 49 cases related to violations of technical regulations by sawmills, including the operation of illegal sawmills
The agency reports that 11 of these incidents contain signs of criminal offenses and have been referred to the relevant authorities for investigation.
The highest number of violations was recorded in Adjara with 33 cases, followed by:
- Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 22 cases
- Samtskhe-Javakheti – 20 cases
- Kakheti – 15 cases
- Imereti – 14 cases
- Shida Kartli – 10 cases
- Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 7 cases
- Guria and Kvemo Kartli – 1 case each
In total, over 129 cubic meters of illegally harvested timber were seized during the month. Additionally, 5 unregistered sawmills were sealed across the country.
From January to June 2025, the Environmental Supervision Department identified a total of 877 illegal forest use cases nationwide. In that same period, 38 illegal sawmills were shut down.
The agency continues to monitor and act against violations in an effort to protect Georgia’s forests and enforce compliance with environmental regulations.
