The National Democratic Institute (NDI) publishes a new sociological survey, which reflects the positions of citizens as of October 2023. According to the document, approximately one in ten has a family member living abroad, who sends them money.
62% of Georgians personally know someone who has emigrated in the last 12 months.
It is clear from the report that compared to 2022, the number of those who are thinking of emigrating has increased by one percentage point, and the figure amounts to 16%.
Majority say that low salaries and lack of jobs are the primary reasons Georgians emigrate abroad.
At the same time, 80% of the respondents say that emigration has a negative impact on Georgia, 15% of the population speaks of the positive impact of emigration.
The mentioned report is based on the results of a face-to-face survey of the adult population of Georgia conducted from October 14 to November 4 across the country (excluding the occupied territories). The October survey includes a total of 2,068 completed interviews. The average margin of error in the survey is +/- 2.2 percent.
