Georgia’s National Forestry Agency identified 25 violations across the country in August 2026, including 21 cases related to illegal logging and the transportation of illegally harvested timber. Authorities seized up to 65 cubic meters of firewood and construction timber.
Of the illegal logging cases, four were recorded in Imereti, four in Guria, three each in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Shida Kartli, two in Kakheti, and one each in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
The agency also identified four cases of unauthorized occupation of state forest land in Samtskhe-Javakheti and Shida Kartli. The seized timber will be stored at the National Forestry Agency’s designated “business yards.”
In total, 464 cases of illegal logging have been identified across Georgia during the first eight months of 2026, highlighting the continued scale of illegal timber extraction in the country.
