Protest rallies, started since November 28, and recent developmnets in the country have already translated from a political into an economic crisis. Not only hotels, but also hospitality establishments have found themselves in a difficult financial situation.
Due to the fact that there are no guests in restaurants, the establishments have also had problems paying budget taxes. Restaurateur Vakhtang Kandelaki said in an interview with BMGTV that more than half of restaurants have failed to pay VAT, as they used the funds to pay employee salaries and other expenses.
“The picture is complicated. More than half of the businesses, over 70% were unable to pay VAT, because they used funds to pay employees' salaries, pay off distribution debts, and cover the other restaurant business expenses.
One day, the curtain fell down and the restaurant business closed, after that the restaurant had no income and could not convert it in any direction to survive and use the funds that were supposed to be included in the budget, "- says Vakhtang Kandelaki.
