70% of electricity in Kazakhstan is generated from coal, reports the statistics agency.
“70% of electricity in Kazakhstan is generated from coal, 20% from gas, 3% from renewable sources, the rest from water,” the report said.
Electricity generation by renewable energy facilities amounted to 4.2 billion kWh in 2021.
“The share of electricity generated by renewable energy facilities, including large hydropower plants, has reached 11% by 2020 compared to 10.3 in 2015. Without taking into account large hydropower plants, this figure is even lower, in 2021 it amounted to 3.7%,” reads the report.
