From October 31 to November 14, the international wine exhibition Expovina in Switzerland took place across nine ships, hosting thousands of visitors. Among wines represented from virtually every winemaking country, Georgian wines were presented by the Georgian Wine House (GeoHauss).
David Tkemaladze, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency, attended the exhibition’s opening.
“We’ve seen growing interest in Georgian wine in the Swiss market due to our marketing efforts in recent years, but this isn’t enough. We must continue actively working to increase Georgian wine’s recognition. As you know, Expovina is Switzerland’s largest international wine exhibition, hosting thousands of visitors over two weeks, including wine experts, sommeliers, HoReCa sector representatives, and media professionals. Next year will mark Expovina’s 70th anniversary exhibition, and preparations are underway accordingly. We want Georgian wine to be properly represented,” Tkemaladze stated.
During the exhibition, Tkemaladze met with Expovina’s Executive Director, Pascal Schlittler, to discuss the possibility of a large-scale Georgian wine presentation at the 70th exhibition in 2025.
Kakha Chotiashvili, who presented wines from his own Chotiashvili Cellar at the exhibition, noted that the European market’s demanding quality standards help elevate Georgian wine quality.
“Georgian wine producers, including ourselves, frequently participate in various wine exhibitions, which is crucial. I’d also like to acknowledge the valuable support from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the National Wine Agency,” he said.
Zviad Arabidze, Director of Georgian Wine House (GeoHauss), emphasized that marketing events like Expovina help raise awareness of Georgian wine in Switzerland.
“We selected 25 wines for the exhibition based on local market research. Expovina is Switzerland’s most prestigious wine exhibition. This is our fourth participation with the National Wine Agency’s support. Such marketing events enhance awareness of Georgian wine in Switzerland, leading to increased sales,” Arabidze stated.
Notably, since 2011, Georgian Wine House has been actively involved in promoting Georgian wine in the Swiss market with support from the National Wine Agency and the Georgian Embassy in the Swiss Confederation.
