Russian retail chains are actively increasing wine imports from Armenia and a number of other friendly countries, TASS reports. Igor Karavaev, head of the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT), which unites the largest Russian retailers, stated that the sources of wine supply to the Russian market are being diversified.
According to Karavaev, this shift is due to a sharp decline in wine imports from European countries, which could complicate the situation for consumers. Time is needed to fill the market with affordable and quality products. As a solution to this problem, Russian retail chains are actively boosting wine imports from countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, and Serbia.
"In order to address this issue, we are actively expanding wine supplies from countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, and Serbia," Karavaev noted.
