The Government of Georgia signed an agreement with the World Bank on funding the construction of a four-lane highway in Kakheti. With a loan of USD 109, Georgia will build a road section of 17-km from Sagarejo to Badiauri. This will be the fourth section of the new Kakheti highway.
The Government of Georgia submitted a project for the construction of a new highway to Kakheti in the summer of 2021 and announced three tenders for the construction of a 35.2-km section to Sagarejo.
Tender winners have been revealed and their total funding amounts to GEL 537.8 million. A total of 52.2 kilometers of new highway will be built in Kakheti, including road section of 17-kilometer is financed by the World Bank, which value amounts to GEL 875 million.
The list of tender winners:
1)Company New Road will build a road section of 3.7 km of Tbilisi-Vaziani bypass, the funding amounts to GEL 64 million;
2)China Road and Bridge Corporation has won the tender for the construction of the 23.8-kilometer Vaziani-Sagarejo section; the funding amounts to GEL 313.4 million. Construction of this lot should be completed in 30 months.
3)Gocay Insaat Taahhut ve Ticaret and Macro Construction has won the tender for the construction of a 7.66 km section of the Sagarejo bypass road, which will build the project for 149.9 million. Construction of this lot should be completed in 24 months.
The next part of the road will be the 17-kilometer section of Sagarejo-Badiauri, with a budget of USD 109 million (GEL 338 million). The description of this project has already been published by the Road Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia, and a tender for its design and construction will probably be published in the near future.
