In 2024, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) registered 890 applications related to consumer rights protection, alongside 6,350 incoming calls. Notably, 90% of resolved cases were decided in favor of consumers, with their requests successfully satisfied. Regarding the demographic breakdown of applicants, 70% were female, and 30% were male.
During the year, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) identified 102 violations of consumer rights in 198 cases.
-Fines for Non-Compliance: 56 traders were fined in 92 cases for failing to meet obligations imposed by GCCA, with total fines amounting to 60,000 GEL.
-Commitment Agreements: In 193 cases, 163 agreements were signed in favor of consumers. These agreements required traders to amend their internal business practices and restore the rights of consumers potentially harmed by their trading policies.
In 2024, 67% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 33% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 85%, Adjara with 4%, which is followed by Imereti with 2%, and other regions.
According to the received applications, the demand for a refund is 317, the repair or return of a defective item is 253, 147 for restoring the right to a defective service, 47 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 37 for the unconditional return of the item, 35 for prohibition of misleading activities and the rest is 54.
During the 2024, according to the received applications, 73% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 12%, arts, entertainment, and leisure 3%, and 12% other activities.
