The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a total of $1 billion in loans for Georgia in 2025, covering both public and private sector projects, according to the bank’s latest report. This amounts to about 2.3% of ADB’s total lending commitments for the year.

Of the total, $707 million was allocated to the public sector, while the remaining funding went to private sector initiatives. Among the largest projects is a $359.7 million loan for the Batumi–Sarpi road, which includes construction of a 7-kilometer tunnel near the Turkish border as part of a new 11-kilometer route.

Another major project is a $233 million investment to improve drinking water supply systems in at least 43 settlements across Georgia. ADB also approved $111.8 million for an energy storage (battery) system project, designed to install 200 MWh capacity storage to balance electricity supply, as well as $2.5 million for consultancy work related to a new airport development.

In the private sector, the largest allocation was a $100 million credit line to TBC Bank to support SMEs. Other funding included $69.7 million for trade finance, $50 million for Rustavi Azot’s energy efficiency and production expansion, and $3.3 million for Credo Bank to expand lending to small entrepreneurs. Overall, ADB’s global lending reached $43.9 billion in 2025, with Georgia ranking 12th among recipients.
