Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda says the bank will continue strengthening its partnership with Georgia following a meeting with the country’s Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili.
Kanda shared details of the discussion in a post on X, highlighting the long-standing cooperation between the ADB and Georgia, which joined the bank in 2007. According to him, the ADB has provided nearly $6 billion in financial assistance to the country and remains one of Georgia’s largest development partners.
Masato Kanda wrote on X:
“I had a very productive meeting with Lasha_Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance and ADB Governor for Georgia.
Since Georgia became a member in 2007, ADB_HQ has provided close to $6 billion in financial assistance and remains one of the country’s largest development partners.
Encouraging to hear the significant results of Georgia's reforms and sound macroeconomic management - these are the best "insurance" against external shocks. We discussed strengthening Georgia’s position along the Middle Corridor via connectivity in energy, transport, and digital.
Also very gratifying to hear of innovative and game-changing projects positioning ADB as a leading development finance institution in Georgia, including local currency financing.
Together, we will continue to strengthen our partnership in support of Georgia’s economic progress and improved quality of life for all Georgian people.”
The ADB president emphasized that Georgia’s reforms and sound macroeconomic management serve as an important safeguard against external shocks. He also noted that discussions focused on strengthening the country’s role in the Middle Corridor through improved connectivity in energy, transport, and digital infrastructure.
