The adoption of the "MEGOBARI Act" by the U.S. Congress shows that the international community is closely monitoring developments in Georgia, – the European Commission’s press service told 'InterpressNews'.
The press service noted that the actions taken by the Georgian government are alarming and do not align with the expectations that EU institutions have for a candidate country.
"The adoption of the 'MEGOBARI Act' by the U.S. Congress demonstrates that the international community is closely watching the developments in Georgia.
The actions taken by the Georgian authorities are alarming and far from what we expect from a candidate country.
We call on the Georgian government to repeal the legislation that is incompatible with EU values.
The European Union has responded by taking measures toward the Georgian authorities and by strengthening support for civil society," the European Commission’s press service said.
