French Stade Rennais, Olympique Lyonnais, English Tottenham Hotspur an Italian top club tried to convince Georges Mikautadze of a transfer last week, but the French-Georgian attacker set his sights on a transfer to Dutch Ajax after talks with Sven Mislintat, Director of Football at AFC Ajax, nicknamed "Diamond Eye" for his ability in spotting players, according to Voetbal International.

According to the report, Ajax and FC Metz have been negotiating intensively about Mikautadze in recent days, with the amount and bonuses being a top issue of discussions. Sources around the negotiations indicate that the fixed amount eventually came to be around EUR 16 million. That amount could increase by several million due to bonuses.

According to French sources, Mikautadze will sign with Ajax for four years after completing his medical examination. The team from Amsterdam sees him as a multi-purpose attacker who adds scoring power again after the departure of Serbian Dusan Tadic and Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus. That is one more reason why Mikautadze was at the top of Mislintat's list and not Argentinian Thiago Almada.

The report adds that the Georgian sensation burst onto the scene during a brilliant 2022/23 campaign, netting 23 goals and eight assists to help Metz secure promotion to Ligue1.

He has carried his rich vein of form to the French top flight, having enjoyed a blistering start to the new season.

Mikautadze has accumulated two goals and an assist in three games, including the decisive strike in Metz’s latest win against Clermont Foot.

The 22-year-old French born Georgian Mikautadze also plays for the Georgian national team. He received a first call-up for the Georgia national team from French coach Willy Sagnol in March 2021. He told the press that he had been dreaming about playing for Georgia since his childhood.

Mikautadze made his debut with the Georgia national team in a 1–0 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification loss to Sweden on 25 March 2021. In June 2021, he netted his first international goal in a 2–1 away friendly win against Romania.
