Wages in Georgia are rising, but the growth is uneven and does not adequately reflect the population’s economic needs, according to former Economy Minister Nikoloz Alavidze, commenting on official statistics published by Geostat.
Alavidze argued that although wage increases are necessary, the figures promoted by the ruling Georgian Dream government reflect a broader economic problem. He noted that even median wages are not growing in line with overall economic growth, describing the pattern as “feudal and exclusive” and harmful to society.
According to Geostat, the average monthly salary in Georgia reached GEL 2,165.2 in 2025, while the median monthly salary stood at GEL 1,531 - approximately 29% lower than the average.
The gap between average and median wages highlights the uneven distribution of earnings, reinforcing concerns about whether economic growth is translating into improved living standards for the wider population.
