Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the country’s strong economic growth and upgraded forecasts from international financial institutions reflect successful economic policies and the elimination of high-level corruption.
“Economic growth reached 8.6% in June, while the average growth rate for the first six months was 7.9%. Maintaining this high pace remains one of our key priorities,” Kobakhidze said ahead of a government meeting.
He noted that manufacturing, transport, construction, information technologies, and the financial and insurance sectors made the largest contributions to growth. According to him, international institutions raising their forecasts confirms the effectiveness of the government’s economic approach.
Kobakhidze added that while fighting corruption at lower levels must continue, major progress has been achieved in improving governance. He also thanked Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and his team, saying their work contributed to the country’s recent economic results.
