On May 22, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is in Tehran, met with Iran's acting president, Mohammad Mokhber, according to the government press service.

The Prime Minister's office reported that Pashinyan expressed condolences over the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other officials.

"Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that he and Ebrahim Raisi had not only a partnership but also warm friendly relations, which positively influenced Armenia-Iran relations. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the plans outlined with Ebrahim Raisi, as well as the positive trend in relations between the two countries, would continue," the statement said.

Mohammad Mokhber assured that all programs planned by the Armenian Prime Minister together with Ebrahim Raisi, aimed at developing Armenia-Iran relations, would continue.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died on May 19. The helicopter carrying him and eight others crashed in the Northwest East Azerbaijan province of northwestern Iran.

The crash also claimed the life of Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. Raisi was returning from a dam opening ceremony on the Aras River at the border with Azerbaijan, which was also attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Earlier BMG reported that at the end of 2023, Yerevan and Tehran agreed to eliminate road tolls for trucks crossing the border.

According to Armenia's Statistical Committee, Armenia's trade turnover with Iran amounted to $692.5 million in 2023, down 2.5% compared to 2022.
