Following the appointment of a new Interior Minister in Georgia, all five deputy ministers have been officially relieved of their duties. The decision was formalized by a decree signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Until now, the First Deputy Minister was Roland Meskhia, while the deputy ministers included Shalva Tadumadze, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Giorgi Sakhokia, and Mariam Tabatadze.
The changes come after it was announced at a government briefing that Gela Geladze had been appointed head of the State Security Service (SSG), with Sulkhan Tamazashvili replacing him as Interior Minister.
It is currently unclear whether the dismissal of the deputies is a purely procedural step or whether Tamazashvili will reappoint the same officials or bring in new figures to the ministry leadership.
Earlier today, Kobakhidze also signed decrees formally dismissing Geladze from the Interior Ministry and appointing Tamazashvili as his successor.
