The Georgian government has amended its procurement rules, allowing additional state agencies to purchase beverages in plastic bottles of up to three liters for specific operational needs. The exemption now applies not only to the Defense Forces but also to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service.

According to the government decree, the restriction will not apply to procurements carried out for training operations, public safety, law enforcement, and preventive or response measures. Similar provisions have been extended to state security and military operational needs.

Previously, such exemptions applied only to the Defense Forces and military-related activities. With the new amendment, the Interior Ministry and State Security Service have been added to the list of institutions eligible for the exception.

The update follows a broader government decision made in May to postpone the ban on production, import, and sale of plastic bottled beverages until February 1, 2031.
