Georgia’s 2025 almond and walnut harvests are expected to nearly match last year’s figures, with only minor fluctuations, - according to the Almond and Walnut Producers Association. Association representative Levan Kvariani told BM.GE that while the almond harvest may optimistically reach 3,500 tons, most farmers anticipate a slightly smaller yield due to heavy September rainfall. Last year, Georgia produced around 3,000 tons of unshelled almonds.
Walnut production shows a more positive outlook. In 2024, Georgia harvested roughly 3,500 tons of walnuts, and this year’s harvest is projected to rise to about 4,000 tons. Despite this increase, both almond and walnut sales will remain concentrated in the domestic market, which accounted for 90–95% of sales last year. Exports to the EU, Russia, and India were negligible in volume and did not warrant deeper market research.
Kvariani also noted upward pressure on prices, particularly for almonds. The delivery price of unshelled almonds has already increased from $1.20 last year to $1.40 this year. Once processed into kernels, prices rise further. Wholesale almond prices, which started at 17–18 GEL in 2024, are now expected to reach 19–20 GEL.
“Both crops will mainly stay in Georgia’s local market, but consumers should expect slightly higher prices, especially for almonds,” Kvariani said.
