Ambitious but Realistic Plan – What Kobakhidze Said on Energy Workers’ Day

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the development of Georgia’s energy system and energy security remains one of the government’s top priorities. He said the country has an ambitious plan to increase electricity generation 2.5-fold by 2036.

Speaking at an Energy Workers’ Day event, Kobakhidze highlighted the importance of the sector to Georgia’s economic development and thanked energy professionals for their contribution. He said optimization at the Economy Ministry has laid the foundation for a new 10-year development vision focused on building new energy facilities and strengthening the system.

Kobakhidze described the target of increasing generation 2.5-fold as ambitious but achievable. He said the government would focus on attracting new investment, strengthening infrastructure and promoting modern technologies in the energy sector.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of human capital, saying the knowledge and expertise of energy professionals are key to the sector’s past and future success. He thanked Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, energy-sector coordinator Inga Pkhaladze, heads of state-owned energy companies and energy workers for their contribution.
