On January 30, Yerevan hosted the 14th session of the Armenian-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, chaired by Prime Ministers Nikol Pashinyan and Irakli Kobakhidze. According to the Armenian government’s press service, the central topic of discussion was the simplification of customs procedures and border crossing regulations to increase cargo transportation between the two countries.
Before the main session, the heads of government held a bilateral meeting, during which they discussed key areas of cooperation and regional issues. In his speech, Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the significance of the strategic partnership declaration signed in Tbilisi on January 26, 2024, calling it a cornerstone not only for bilateral relations but also for ensuring stability in the entire region.
The Armenian Prime Minister stressed the need to expand cooperation in 2025 across a wide range of sectors, including transportation and communications, energy and information technology, tourism and agriculture, as well as healthcare, education, and science. However, a key priority remains the creation of more favorable conditions for cargo transportation between the two countries.
Irakli Kobakhidze, in turn, noted that relations between the two countries are not only based on geographical proximity but also have deep historical roots and are founded on mutual respect between the governments and peoples of Armenia and Georgia. He reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to promoting regional stability and peace, which are essential for the development of both nations.
At the conclusion of the session, both sides agreed to intensify efforts to harmonize the existing legal framework and create more favorable conditions for business contacts and cooperation. Particular attention will be given to modernizing customs infrastructure and optimizing border crossing procedures.
The leaders also highlighted the importance of fostering people-to-people connections and enhancing cultural cooperation, which will contribute to the further strengthening of the traditionally friendly relations between the Armenian and Georgian peoples.
