The 14th session of the Armenian-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation took place in Yerevan, chaired by the Prime Ministers of both countries. According to the Armenian government’s press service, the meeting addressed pressing issues of bilateral cooperation and outlined priority areas for the development of economic ties.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted a slight decline in trade turnover between the two countries from January to November 2024 but expressed confidence that, through targeted efforts, not only could previous volumes be restored, but further growth could also be ensured. He placed particular emphasis on Armenia’s "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, introduced in Tbilisi in October 2023, which aims to unblock regional communications while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reported a significant 40% increase in Armenian investments in Georgia’s economy. He highlighted that the Georgian government continues to enhance the business environment and investment climate by creating effective support mechanisms and programs for Armenian investors.
Tourism development was a key focus of the meeting. According to Georgian data, approximately one million Armenian tourists visited Georgia, an impressive figure for a small country. The two sides agreed to develop joint tourism packages and improve tourism infrastructure, viewing tourism not only as an economic driver but also as a means to strengthen people-to-people ties.
Discussions also covered the development of transport infrastructure and the unblocking of regional communications. Pashinyan emphasized Georgia’s crucial role in the region’s economic development, noting that the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative was designed with this factor in mind and has the potential to bring tangible benefits to Georgia.
The Georgian side expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation in trade and economic sectors, underlining the importance of joint efforts to enhance the global recognition of both countries and the region as a whole. Kobakhidze assured that his team is committed to active collaboration on all discussed areas and looks forward to close cooperation with Armenia.
