The prospects for expanding tourism cooperation between Armenia and Iran were the central topic of a meeting between Armenia's Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, and the Iranian delegation led by Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of increasing tourist arrivals from Iran, which ranks third among the countries sending visitors to Armenia.
According to the Armenian Ministry of Economy, the two sides discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues, with a particular focus on developing medical tourism and raising awareness about the tourism potential of both countries.
Data from the Armenian Tourism Committee indicate that in November, visitors from Iran accounted for 8% of all tourists to Armenia, following Russia (43%) and Georgia (12%).
During the discussions, the ministers explored concrete measures to strengthen tourism ties, including organizing a session of the technical commission on tourism cooperation.
A key initiative discussed was the organization of a familiarization visit for representatives of Iranian media to Armenia in 2025, aimed at further promoting Armenia as a tourist destination in the Iranian market.
