Gas and electricity supplies have been restored in the Akhtala community of the Lori region, which was affected by flooding, according to Aaren Mkrtchyan, a deputy from the ruling Civil Contract party's parliamentary faction, on his Facebook page.

According to him, the provision of food and essential items for this community, which was cut off from the rest of the region due to the flooding, is being carried out via a mountain road.

"Gas and electricity supplies have been restored in blocked Akhtala. Food and essential items are being delivered via the Saramidzhan road," Mkrtchyan wrote.

He added that the Akhtala Medical Center, led by Director Karen Azaryan, is operating around the clock without days off. There are no issues with medicines as their supply is also being properly managed.

"We met with residents, discussed solutions to existing problems, and gathered information on new issues," the deputy added.

Earlier, BMG reported that the Armenian government declared several settlements in Lori and Tavush provinces disaster zones following severe floods caused by heavy rains on May 25-26, 2024.

As a result of the disaster, 4 people died, 18 bridges were destroyed, and 7 settlements were cut off from the rest of the region. To address the urgent needs of the local population, 300 million drams (approximately $800,000) have already been allocated.

As a result of the rescue operations involving units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' rescue service and other involved forces, 443 people have been rescued and evacuated from various settlements in Lori and Tavush regions.
