At a meeting on May 28, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan announced that the government plans to declare the flood-affected communities and settlements in the Lori and Tavush provinces as disaster zones.

"300 million drams have been allocated to address urgent issues," Sanosyan stated.

The minister also mentioned that he conducted an inspection of the M6 interstate road up to the Ayrum station, where he recorded road and bridge collapses, and conducted a damage inventory.

During the meeting, issues related to the restoration of water supply, gas supply, and other utilities in Alaverdi and neighboring settlements were also discussed.

Previously, BMG reported that the Government of Armenia declared several settlements in the Lori and Tavush provinces as disaster zones following severe flooding caused by heavy rains on May 25-26, 2024.

As a result of the natural disaster, 4 people died, 18 bridges were destroyed, and 7 settlements were cut off from the rest of the region.

The damage caused by the overflow of the Debed River has not yet been fully assessed, but it is reported to be devastatingly large, according to Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan.
