After the meeting of the operational headquarters on May 29, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan summarized the work done in the disaster zone affected by the flooding and presented further actions.
The minister noted that specialists are being sent to the affected settlements throughout the day to conduct inventory and assess the problems on-site.
"In addition to the fact that communication with the settlements has been established, and the administrative leaders are presenting their needs, specialists are still being sent there during the day to try to conduct on-site inventory, identify existing problems, and make certain deliveries. We have conducted an inventory of several needs today, and deliveries will start early in the morning," Sanosyan said.
He also emphasized the need for volunteers.
"Of course, over time, the volume of work increases, and the tasks expand, but by involving various partners, we are trying to organize this work as quickly as possible, despite the fact that there is still a lot to be done. The scale of the disasters is enormous," the minister noted.
Earlier, BMG reported that the Armenian government declared several settlements in Lori and Tavush provinces disaster zones following severe floods caused by heavy rains on May 25-26, 2024.
As a result of the disaster, 4 people died, 18 bridges were destroyed, and 7 settlements were cut off from the rest of the region. To address the urgent needs of the local population, 300 million drams (approximately $800,000) have already been allocated.
As a result of the rescue operations involving units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' rescue service and other involved forces, 443 people have been rescued and evacuated from various settlements in Lori and Tavush regions.
