Recovery work in the disaster-stricken areas of Lori and Tavush regions in Armenia is actively continuing in all directions. This was reported by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Head of the Operational Headquarters Gnel Sanosyan, on June 3.

The minister noted that Tumanyan Street in Alaverdi has been almost completely cleared of mud. Work at the Sanahin station, which is the area most affected by the flooding, is ongoing and nearing completion.

"Extensive work is being carried out in the village of Karkop, where special equipment was delivered by rail," said Gnel Sanosyan.

According to the minister, gas, water, and electricity supply has been mostly restored in many settlements. The head of the operational headquarters also assured that irrigation water supply will be restored within ten days.

"We have two pedestrian bridges, one of which is frequently used, the Ahtalinsky bridge. Yesterday we worked with Teghut to allow vehicles to approach the bridge as closely as possible. People are even buying goods and selling their produce using this bridge," Sanosyan noted.

The most urgent solution is the installation of a temporary bridge. "We are currently working with partners to enable at least light vehicles to cross. If we find prefabricated bridges from our partners, or find ways to build a temporary bridge ourselves," he added.

Ideas are also being considered regarding other bridges—whether to build them in the same locations or not. Other agencies are also supporting the inventory process and the detection and removal of dead animals.

"We are doing everything possible to accelerate the recovery process and ensure the safety and comfort of residents in the affected areas," the minister emphasized.

Earlier, BMG reported that the Armenian government declared several settlements in Lori and Tavush provinces disaster zones following severe floods caused by heavy rains on May 25-26, 2024.

As a result of the disaster, 4 people died, 18 bridges were destroyed, and 7 settlements were cut off from the rest of the region. To address the urgent needs of the local population, 300 million drams (approximately $800,000) have already been allocated.
