The Armenian government has approved a relief program for those affected by the May floods in the Lori and Tavush regions.

During a session on August 15, a decision was made to allocate around $1.15 million to support local entrepreneurs and farmers whose properties were severely damaged by the natural disaster.

Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan presented the details of the program, which covers two main areas. Approximately $770,000 will be directed towards supporting around 150 entrepreneurs, including owners of damaged commercial properties.

The amount of assistance will be determined based on the extent of the damage, the size of the affected property, and the taxes paid in the previous year. An additional $380,000 is allocated to compensate farmers for lost livestock, destroyed crops, fruit trees, and berry bushes.

This government initiative is a response to the devastating floods that occurred on May 26, 2024, when heavy rains caused significant destruction in several communities in the Tavush and Lori regions.

The natural disaster caused extensive material damage to the region, leading to the collapse of roads and bridges, and tragically resulted in the loss of four lives.

The government emphasizes that this program is an important step towards restoring the affected areas and supporting the local population. Detailed mechanisms for compensation distribution are expected to be developed in the coming weeks, after which the payment process will begin.
