Kobakhidze: “There Is an Attempt to Pit Georgia Against Armenia”

სს

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says that there are attempts by what he called “local agents and their foreign patrons” to create tensions between Georgia and Armenia, including through comparative political narratives. He made the remarks during an interview on Imedi LIVE, responding to questions about how certain European actors view the two countries.

Kobakhidze stressed that comparing Georgia and Armenia is “inappropriate,” emphasizing that the two neighboring countries maintain friendly relations and a strategic partnership. He said Georgia considers Armenia a close friend and that any attempts to create divisions between the two nations would not succeed.

The Prime Minister also highlighted what he described as strong bilateral ties with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, saying the relationship between the two governments is friendly and cooperative. He referenced Pashinyan’s earlier remarks that Georgia’s role is important for Armenia’s European integration process, calling this evidence of close coordination between the countries.

Kobakhidze further criticized unnamed European officials, claiming that some statements about Armenia’s geopolitical role reflected a lack of understanding of geography and regional dynamics. He added that Georgia remains committed to supporting Armenia as a friendly neighbor and partner in the region.
