According to Armenian media reports citing informed sources, an important trilateral meeting between representatives of Armenia, Iran, and India is expected to take place soon. The meeting's goal is to launch a new trade route, which promises to be a significant breakthrough in international logistics.

The meeting will be held in Iran, where logistics representatives from the three countries will familiarize themselves with the infrastructure of the strategically important port of Chabahar. Special attention will be given to discussing Armenia's operational activities in this port. Sources highlight that the new route will significantly enhance Armenia's trade potential by providing reliable access to the markets of India and Southeast Asia.

The proposed route will extend from the Indian port of Mumbai through Iran’s Chabahar and Armenia, with further access to Georgia or Russia. This will enable the transportation of goods from the Persian Gulf countries and India to the EU and EAEU through an optimal path. For Iran and India, this route is particularly significant as a way to diversify supply lines, bypassing complex maritime routes.

Experts note that the new trade corridor could reduce logistics costs by a quarter and cut transport time nearly in half, from 40 to 18 days. Armenia becomes a key transit hub in this scheme, connecting Asia with Europe through Georgia’s Black Sea ports.

Analysts believe that the successful implementation of the project will significantly strengthen Armenia's geopolitical and economic position in the region. The new route is seen as a promising alternative to existing maritime routes, including the one through the Suez Canal.

Recently, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated that Armenia could indeed become a transit country between India and Europe, and India and Russia.

Previously, BMG reported that India signed a 10-year contract with Iran for the development and operation of the Iranian port of Chabahar, where Armenia plans to establish an operational point.

Iran’s Ambassador to Yerevan, Mehdi Sobhani, recently announced Armenia’s interest in opening a representation in the port of Chabahar, which he said would facilitate trade with India, Iran, and South Asian countries.
