The Armenian government has decided to implement a new, stricter labeling system for beer bottles in accordance with the standards of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This decision was approved at the cabinet meeting on August 1.
The new labeling system is based on uniform approaches to product identification defined by the Eurasian Economic Commission in 2021. The key difference in the new control labels is that they enable tracking not only the total volume of products sold but also each individual unit.
It's important to note that this labeling should not be confused with excise stamps. The labeling system used in Armenia since 2013 covers not only excisable goods and aims to control the circulation of various products.
Initially, the new system will be implemented on an experimental basis. For the first six months, it will be tested on the circulation of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer. The plan is to gradually extend this control system to other types of products in the future.
The project will be carried out by the local company "Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies-Armenia." The introduction of the new labeling system is expected to begin shortly.
This initiative aims to increase market transparency, combat counterfeit products, and improve control over the circulation of goods in the country. Additionally, the new labeling system will help Armenia more effectively integrate into the EAEU's unified economic space.
