Armenia is preparing to extend the operation period of the nuclear power plant

On Monday, May 6th, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Gnel Sanosyan, held a meeting at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

According to the department's press service, during the meeting, the General Director of CJSC "Armenian Nuclear Power Plant," Eduard Martirosyan, presented a report to the minister on the completed and ongoing work.

Issues related to the progress of work on the extension of the operating period of the nuclear power plant, identified problems, and compliance with the established deadlines for work execution were discussed.

Minister Sanosyan gave strict instructions regarding the necessity of adhering to the established deadlines and demanded an analysis of cases where deadlines were not met, providing corresponding justifications.

Earlier, BMG reported that in June 2023, an interdepartmental working group on the construction of a new nuclear power unit was established in Armenia. The operating period of the existing Metsamor NPP has been extended until 2036. In recent years, technical modernization works have been carried out at the station aimed at extending its operational life.
