Armenia was the world’s sixth best foreign direct investment (FDI) performer relative to the size of its economy in 2022, according to the Greenfield FDI Performance Index-2023, which is compiled annually by fDi Intelligence, a research center of the Financial Times Group.
Armenia’s score in 2022 was 6.9. That means that given the size of its economy, the country attracted 6.9 times more projects than its GDP would suggest.
"The top 10 features four countries, North Macedonia, Georgia, Armenia and Malta, with a 2022 (GDP) under $25bn, illustrating the growing ability of emerging economies to target and attract FDI projects and compete with larger economies," the ranking authors said.
Northern Macedonia has remained the leader in the group of emerging market economies, while
Armenia with 6.9 rose the most places in Emerging Europe in 2022 index, by 12 places.
At the same time Georgia (7.3 points) and Armenia, thanks to their outstanding performance, were at the top of the list of 23 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The new entrants knocked last year’s regional winner Singapore (4.9) into third place.
Leaders of the Index were Costa Rica (12.7), Northern Macedonia (11.9) and the UAE (11.1), while outsiders were Hong Kong, New Zealand and Chile (1.8 each).
Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan stated earlier that the volume of foreign direct investments in 2022 reached $1bln and total investments - $4.2bln, ARKA reports.
