The Armenian Tourism Committee is preparing to tap into untapped international tourism markets in 2025, with a particular focus on China. This was stated by Lusine Gevorgyan, Chair of the Tourism Committee, in an exclusive interview with ARKA news agency.
"China is a priority market for us, and we are aiming to collaborate with the country’s leading tourism companies. The existing direct flight between Yerevan and Urumqi can significantly contribute to tourism development. Additionally, the visa-free regime with China provides a strong foundation for growth. If we succeed in attracting Chinese tourists next year, it would mark a major accomplishment for the committee in 2025," Gevorgyan emphasized.
She highlighted plans for several international events in 2025, including Armenia's participation in the Fitur Madrid international tourism exhibition on January 28. Efforts are already underway to design Armenia's stand for the event. Armenia also plans to participate in ITB Berlin and set up a year-long booth in Osaka, Japan, featuring days dedicated to Armenian cuisine, beverages, and traditional costumes.
Regarding current figures, Gevorgyan noted that as of the end of October 2024, Armenia had welcomed 1.95 million tourists. This number is expected to reach 2 million by the end of the year. "We aim to improve this figure by 20% next year, focusing on aggressive international marketing to enhance Armenia’s visibility and accessibility, particularly in destinations with existing direct flights," Gevorgyan concluded.
