Elon Musk's global satellite system has completed the licensing process in Armenia and is entering the final stage of preparations for launch. Once testing is complete, residents of the country will gain access to high-speed satellite internet.
The company Starlink AM has received two key licenses from Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission: one for operating a public electronic communication network and another for using radio frequency bands to organize global satellite communication systems.
Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, who previously discussed the matter with SpaceX representatives in the U.S. in June this year, confirmed that the project has entered the testing phase. "We hope the testing period will conclude in the coming months, and the service will be fully launched," the minister stated.
Earlier, speaking at the closing ceremony of the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2024), Elon Musk reaffirmed his intentions to deploy Starlink in Armenia. In his address, Musk emphasized that high-speed satellite internet would help reduce digital inequality in the country, particularly in rural areas.
Additionally, the billionaire expressed interest in collaborating with Armenia's tech community in various fields—from space research to the development of open artificial intelligence.
