From January to November 2024, the total freight transportation volume in Armenia reached 15,269.2 thousand tons, a 10.2% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. The most significant decline was observed in the railway sector.
According to the latest data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the railway sector experienced the steepest drop of 32.9%, with a total of 1,328.8 thousand tons transported. The distribution of railway freight included 318.7 thousand tons each for exports and imports, while domestic transport accounted for 343.6 thousand tons.
The road transport sector also saw a decline, with an 8% decrease to 12,204.7 thousand tons. The majority of this volume came from domestic freight, which totaled 7,431.1 thousand tons. Imports accounted for 3,900.2 thousand tons, and exports for 873.4 thousand tons.
The only growing segment was air transport, which recorded a 21.2% increase, reaching 37.1 thousand tons. This sector displayed an almost equal split between exports (18.9 thousand tons) and imports (18.2 thousand tons).
Pipeline transport showed a slight decline of just 1.2%, with a total volume of 1,698.6 thousand tons. This sector proved to be the most stable amidst the overall downturn in the transportation industry.
