The Armenian government has made a decision to improve the country's energy infrastructure. At a meeting on September 12, a $40 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), part of the World Bank Group, was approved.
The funds will be allocated for the reconstruction of three key substations: "Shamyan-2," "Marash," and "Yeghegnadzor." These facilities play a crucial role in the distribution of electricity throughout the country. The modernization of the substations aims to achieve several important goals: enhancing the reliability of Armenia's entire energy system, significantly reducing the time required to fix outages, and decreasing the number of unplanned power disruptions.
The project is expected to substantially improve the quality of electricity supply for consumers nationwide. The upgraded substations will be better equipped to handle the growing load on the energy system.
It is worth noting that Armenia's energy system has been under significant strain recently. Amid a sharp increase in construction across the country, particularly in the capital Yerevan, existing capacities are frequently overloaded, leading to periodic outages and disruptions in electricity supply.
