The British Embassy in Yerevan has announced that Armenia will be able to benefit from the United Nations Green Climate Fund (GCF) program with a sum of £11.6 billion.
Great Britain, being the third-largest contributor to the GCF, provides this support as part of its commitment to international climate financing, according to a statement on the embassy's social media page.
The aim of this program is to assist countries in investing in adaptation, enhancing resilience, and preventing climate change. The embassy expressed satisfaction that Armenia will also be able to avail itself of this support.
Additionally, it is reported that funding is also available for seven other countries: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Nepal.
In 2021, the Armenian parliament approved the main directions of cooperation between the republic and the fund during a session. It was reported at that time that two grant programs with a total budget of $30 million were currently being implemented, $20 million of which were allocated for the development of technical solutions to increase energy efficiency in buildings.
