On August 22, during a government meeting, Armenia approved three major programs aimed at stimulating the development of livestock farming in the country. These initiatives cover various sectors of agriculture and are designed to enhance the productivity and efficiency of the livestock industry.
The first program, "Sheep and Goat Breeding Development for 2024-2028," offers state support in the form of a 50% subsidy on the cost of purchased animals. The plan is to apply this measure to the acquisition of 10,000 heads of pedigree small ruminants by agricultural entities. This approach is intended to improve the gene pool of sheep and goats in Armenia.
The second initiative, the "Pilot Productivity Improvement Program," will be implemented in 2024-2025 in four regions of the republic: Aragatsotn, Gegharkunik, Syunik, and Tavush. The primary goal of this program is to enhance the breeding characteristics of cattle through artificial insemination. The government plans to subsidize approximately 70% of the costs for this procedure, allocating 10,000 drams per insemination. This is expected to improve both the quality and quantity of beef production.
The third program focuses on the development of beekeeping in Armenia. As part of this initiative, the state will cover 50% of the cost of acquiring 10,000 bee colonies. This measure is intended to stimulate beekeeping in various regions of the country, which will not only boost honey production but also contribute to environmental improvement through the role of bees in pollinating plants.
