On August 22, the Armenian government made a final decision on the location of the new Academic Town in Yerevan. This large-scale educational project will be built on two key sites: the area in the 17th district of the capital and a plot owned by the "Armenfilm" film studio.
According to the plans, the Academic Town will host 16 higher education institutions, including public, private, and international universities, significantly expanding educational opportunities for students.
The project is being developed by the renowned German company gmp International GmbH, known for its innovative architectural solutions. Construction of the Academic Town is set to begin in 2025 and will be carried out in phases.
Despite the scale of the project, the government has set an ambitious timeline, aiming for the first students to begin studying in the new Academic Town by 2030.
This project, as envisioned by its creators, promises to be a significant step forward in the development of Armenia's higher education system. It will create a modern infrastructure for education and research while attracting international partners to the country's educational sector.
It was previously reported that the Academic Town will be built on a 680-hectare area adjacent to Yerevan’s 17th district, bordering the Armavir, Aragatsotn, and Kotayk provinces. The site will be connected by various transport routes to both Yerevan and surrounding regions. In the initial phase, the Academic Town is expected to accommodate and employ around 44,000 people.
