The Armenian government has decided to regulate the movement of scooters, electric scooters, skateboards, electric skateboards, hoverboards, and segways. The corresponding legislative initiative was approved at the government meeting on June 20 and sent to parliament for consideration.

According to the proposed changes, movement on these devices will be allowed on bicycle lanes or bike paths. If there are no such lanes or paths, movement is permitted on sidewalks, pedestrian paths, or road shoulders. In the absence of bicycle lanes and the inability to use pedestrian zones, movement will be allowed on the right side of the traffic lane. In this case, the vehicles must be equipped with brakes, a sound signal, and reflectors.

The bill also limits the speed of these devices to 20 km/h. When pedestrians and individual transportation devices share the same space, pedestrians will have priority.

Violations of the new requirements will result in a fine five times the minimum wage. Additionally, for operating a bicycle or moped without a helmet or with an unfastened helmet, as well as violations related to goods delivery, there will be a fine seven times the minimum wage.

The new rules are aimed at improving traffic safety and regulating the use of individual transportation devices in Armenia.
