Gevorg Papoyan, the Armenian Minister of Economy, has made a statement refuting rumors about potential problems with the export and sale of Armenian brandy. During a briefing with journalists on August 22, the minister emphasized that no alarming signals have been received from business representatives at this time.
Commenting on recent publications in the Russian media about potential issues with Armenian brandy on the Russian market, Papoyan urged against jumping to conclusions. He noted that there have been no official statements on the matter and believes that discussing it prematurely is unwarranted.
The minister also shared plans for the development of the industry. According to him, Armenia plans to open its own isotope laboratory by 2025. "This will allow the necessary testing of brandy to be conducted within the country. Currently, all Armenian brandies undergo mandatory isotope testing in Russia, without which their sale on the Russian market is impossible," he said.
Earlier, BMG reported that according to a study conducted by the international association "Anticounterfeit" and the Union of Brandy, Spirits, and Alcohol Producers of Russia, 89% of the tested samples of Armenian brandy did not meet established standards.
In response to inquiries from Armenian media to comment on this information, the Armenian Ministry of Economy stated that it has not yet received any official notifications or information on the basis for conducting such a study. Ministry representatives noted that they will return to discussing the issue after reviewing the facts.
