The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, announced the phased implementation of the large-scale "Academic City" project. During a discussion with journalists on July 10, she emphasized the need for sequential stages and prioritization of tasks.

The first stage includes the construction of the National Stadium, a key objective, and a modern concert hall. According to the Minister, design work on individual buildings will commence from February 2025, with construction plans refined in the process, taking into account various factors.

Zhanna Andreasyan noted that the exact project cost will be determined after tenders are conducted. At present, preliminary estimates indicate significant scale and a cost in several trillion drams.

The Minister underscored that the implementation of the "Academic City" program will not solely rely on government efforts: an investment program is nearing completion, with a keen interest in collaboration with the private sector. Future plans involve active engagement with partners to ensure successful project implementation in the city.

Zhanna Andreasyan also emphasized that "Academic City" will commence operations from 2030, beginning with phased implementation.

Earlier reports indicated that "Academic City" will be built on approximately 680 hectares of land adjacent to Yerevan's 17th district, bordering Armavir, Aragatsotn, and Kotayk regions, connected by various transport routes linking Yerevan and the regions. Preliminary estimates suggest that about 44,000 people will work and reside in the academic city during the initial phase.
