On December 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chaired a meeting in Yerevan dedicated to the "Academic City" project—an educational and scientific ecosystem designed to fundamentally transform the scientific and educational landscape of Armenia.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan presented a detailed report on the progress of the project. To date, the concept for the master plan of the "Academic City" has been developed, and comprehensive geological and geotechnical studies of the site have been conducted.
Under international agreements, several key areas are set to be developed: creating a governance model for the "Academic City," forming an urban development strategy, assessing transportation infrastructure and mobility, preparing management personnel, developing a technology cluster model, and drafting roadmaps for integrating universities and research institutions.
The project envisions phased implementation, including site preparation, road construction, landscaping, building a railway station, residential neighborhoods, and sports and cultural centers. Notably, an international conference on the project is planned for May-June 2025.
During the discussion, strategic issues were addressed, including the selection of local partners, details of infrastructure development, and the need to update the project concept with a focus on talent development programs.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister issued instructions to heads of relevant departments, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive and coordinated approach to implementing this ambitious national initiative.
