On Wednesday, March 20, the National Assembly of Armenia voted to approve a loan agreement, under which the country will receive financing for a program aimed at improving seismic safety of schools.
The program is being implemented jointly with the Asian Development Bank and involves the construction and reinforcement of 46 schools by 2027.
This program began its work back in 2015 based on a loan agreement between the government of Armenia and the Asian Development Bank. The total budget of the program is $107 million, of which $88.5 million is provided in the form of loans, and the remaining $18.5 million is in the form of state co-financing.
One of the main tasks of the program is to build or reinforce no fewer than 46 schools to ensure safe learning conditions for 22,500 students.
Also, as part of the program, a review of seismic construction standards is planned, as well as the development of instructions for earthquake-resistant construction and the implementation of a number of other tasks.
