Armenia aims to become a key hub for developing transportation networks between Europe and Asia, advancing a new initiative to unblock regional communication routes. This was announced by Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan at the 64th Plenary Session of the PABSEC General Assembly in Yerevan.
The Armenian government has introduced the “Crossroads of Peace” program, designed to enhance regional connectivity and establish effective links between the Persian Gulf, the Black Sea, and the Caspian Sea. “This program, as part of our peace agenda, seeks to shift the paradigm of regional relations from confrontation to cooperation,” Simonyan emphasized.
As a landlocked country, Armenia has a particular interest in developing transportation infrastructure. “We understand the importance of equitable and inclusive connectivity, open borders, and fully operational transport links for the region’s economic well-being,” he noted.
Simonyan stressed the significance of reopening transportation routes with Turkey and Azerbaijan, which could restore the region’s role in international freight transit. He also highlighted the importance of PABSEC initiatives such as the “Black Sea Ring Highway” and “Maritime Routes,” which could enhance the resilience of the regional transport infrastructure.
“Unblocking all trade and transport links in the South Caucasus will open new opportunities not only for the region’s economic development but also for fostering cultural ties based on respect for the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and equality among states,” the Armenian Parliament Speaker stated.
